About The Artist

HELEN WILKS is a narrative painter, probably best known for three cycles of works: Childhood Fragments (Freud Museum, London 1998) and Punch & Judy (Latinarte/British Council, Madrid 2009; Mantova 2010; New Hall, Cambridge, 2012) and The Inhabited Space (completed Albers Foundation, shown Yale Center for British Art 2007) Additionally she has made very many works based on theatre performance and collaborations (V&A Theatre Collection) and from time to time she undertakes portraits. She is currently working on Festoni, a series of small still-life paintings marking the mutability of flowers and fruits. She produces many works on paper, including watercolours, drawings and prints. From 1996 until her retirement in 2011, she was head of humanities at the City and Guilds of London Art School. She lives and works in London and Northern Italy and studied fine art at Bath Academy of Art (1966- 9) and at the University of Reading (1970-1).
